Thursday, June 20, 2019 - 5:00pm to 6:30pm

Have you heard of New Haven's Institute Library? This hidden gem is tucked away on the second and third floors of a commercial building on Chapel Street, and although its narrow entrance can be easy to miss, this library is a must-see. Join us as we take a tour of Connecticut's oldest independent circulating library and one of the last remaining membership libraries in North America! We will hear about the history of this almost 200 year old institution, learn about the programs they offer, and how to become a member. We will also visit their gallery on the third floor which will feature a brand new exhibition, opening on June 1st, titled A Blue Dark. The Institute Library's website says of the new exhibition, “Connecticut-based visual artist Fritz Horstman collaborates with Paris-based poet, translator, and Zheng harpist Fiona Sze-Lorrain to explore a cross-genre range of textual/non-textual responses to the presence of a luminous dark.” Don't miss this unique opportunity to visit the Institute Library; you just might discover your new favorite place to study! Afterwards, join us for an optional walk to Arethusa for some delicious ice cream to top off the evening. Note: Open to the Yale Community, but you must register to attend. Please note that the building isn't ADA compliant/wheelchair accessible, so keep in mind that we will have to climb 2 flights of stairs. This program is free, but everyone will pay for their own ice cream if you join us at Arethusa.
